The upgrade of the LHCb trigger system

The LHCb experiment will operate at a luminosity of 2×10332\times10^{33} cm−2^{-2}s−1^{-1} during LHC Run 3. At this rate the present readout and hardware Level-0 trigger become a limitation, especially for fully hadronic final states. In order to maintain a high signal efficiency the upgraded LHCb detector will deploy two novel concepts: a triggerless readout and a full software trigger.Comment: Proceedings of the Workshop on Intelligent Trackers, 14-16 May 2014, University of Pennsylvani

Local density of states on a vibrational quantum dot out of equilibrium

We calculate the nonequilibrium local density of states on a vibrational quantum dot coupled to two electrodes at T=0 using a numerically exact diagrammatic Monte Carlo method. Our focus is on the interplay between the electron-phonon interaction strength and the bias voltage. We find that the spectral density exhibits a significant voltage dependence if the voltage window includes one or more phonon sidebands. A comparison with well-established approximate approaches indicates that this effect could be attributed to the nonequilibrium distribution of the phonons. Moreover, we discuss the long transient dynamics caused by the electron-phonon coupling.Comment: 9 pages, 11 figure

30 Years of the Journal Technische Mechanik

In 1980 Technische Mechanik started being published as a new scientific journal after long and complicated negotiations with the authorities of the former GDR. The most powerful argument at the time was that mechanics research could contribute significantly to technological and industrial development within mechanical and process engineering, shipbuilding, civil engineering, etc. Improvements in structural and material design, stability and durability, and life-time prediction were expected to lead to savings of material, and better protection of natural resources and the environment, and would, thus, have a more positive impact on the economic strength of the country

Radiative Penguin Decays of B Mesons: Measurements of B -> K* gamma, B -> K2*(1430) gamma, and Search for B0 -> phi gamma

Electromagnetic radiative penguin decays of the B meson were studied with the BaBar detector at SLAC's PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory. Branching fractions and isospin asymmetry of the decay B -> K* gamma, branching fractions of B -> K2*(1430) gamma, and a search for B0 -> phi gamma are presented. The decay rates may be enhanced by contributions from non-standard model processes.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, presented at the 2004 Meeting of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society, Riverside, CA, USA, August 26-31, 2004, submitted to International Journal of Modern Physics

Future prospects for exploring present day anomalies in flavour physics measurements with Belle II and LHCb

A range of flavour physics observables show tensions with their corresponding Standard Model expectations: measurements of leptonic flavour-changing neutral current processes and ratios of semi-leptonic branching fractions involving different generations of leptons show deviations of the order of four standard deviations. If confirmed, either would be an intriguing sign of new physics. In this manuscript, we analyse the current experimental situation of such processes and for the first time estimate the combined impact of the future datasets of the Belle II and LHCb experiments on the present tensions with the Standard Model expectations by performing scans of the new physics contribution to the Wilson coefficients. In addition, the present day and future sensitivity of tree-level CKM parameters, which offer orthogonal tests of the Standard Model, are explored. Three benchmark points in time are chosen for a direct comparison of the estimated sensitivity between the experiments. A high complementarity between the future sensitivity achieved by the Belle II and LHCb experiments is observed due to their relative strengths and weaknesses. We estimate that all of the anomalies considered here will be either confirmed or ruled out by both experiments independently with very high significance by the end of data-taking at Belle II and the LHCb upgrade

Re-introduction and integrated conservation of rare arable plants is one approach to restore agro-biodiversity. Our study investigated occurrence and population size of rare arable plant species on 94 fields in Bavaria. 50 threatened species could be found with populations >100 individuals. This enabled an initial collection of seeds which will be propagated and sown in extensively managed fields

Search for New Physics in rare decays at LHCb

Rare heavy flavor decays provide stringent tests of the Standard Model of particle physics and allow to test for possible new Physics scenarios. The LHCb experiment at CERN is the ideal place for these searches as it has recorded the worlds largest sample of beauty mesons. The status of the rare decay analyses with 1\invfb of \sqrt s = 7\tev of pppp--collisions collected by the LHCb experiment in 2011 is reviewed. The worlds most precise measurements of the angular structure of \BdToKstmm decays is discussed, as well as the isospin asymmetry measurement in \decay{B}{\kaon^{(*)} \mup\mun} decays. The most stringent upper exclusion limit on the branching fraction of \Bsmm decays is shown, as well as searches for lepton number and lepton flavor violating processes.Comment: 6 pages, Proceedings for an invited talk at the 4th Workshop on Theory, Phenomenology and Experiments in Heavy Flavour Physics, Capri, Italy, 11-13 June 2012; updated reference

How a dinosaur transformed into an e-commerce giant : the digital transformation of the Otto Group

Over the past few years, the topic of digital transformation has become more relevant for many companies. The ever-accelerating dynamics and rapidly emerging technologies represent significant challenges for many companies and require them to digitally transform. Many researchers have already studied several different factors that come along with the topic of digital transformation. Nevertheless, there is a lack of case studies that contain real-world examples illustrating how companies could digitally transform. For this reason, the teaching case on the digital transformation of the Otto Group, with special emphasis on its subsidiary OTTO, was developed. The purpose of this teaching case is to illustrate the challenges that the group faced as well as the success factors that played a major role during the transformation. Also, the case demonstrates how the company has changed over the years. Furthermore, this case shows how the Otto Group succeeded in constantly developing new business models. In the end, the results achieved through the digital transformation are demonstrated and a glimpse into the future of the company will be given. The Otto Group Case exemplifies what an important role corporate culture plays in the context of digital transformation. With the help of the cultural change at the Otto Group and the full commitment of the executive board, which could be seen, among other aspects, in the large investments made in the context of the change process, the group was able to carry out the digital transformation.

Fossiler Energieträger Energieversorgung Energietechnik Energieforschung Kohlenstoff Welt Kohlenstoffsequestrierung
